Summary of Purpose/ Major Responsibilities

This position is responsible for external egg quality. The function of this role is to:

  • Perform farm and incubation facility inspections to ensure compliance to local, global, and regulatory procedures/requirements
  • Manage the processes for quality control of eggs from these facilities.
  • This individual will also interact closely with Egg Procurement and shop floor teams in understanding the Egg Management process.
  • This individual will be responsible for evaluating the supplier change notifications, supplier deviations and quality agreements.

Key Accountability

Farm/Incubation Facility Inspections:

  • The individual will be responsible for conducting planned and unplanned inspections as assigned, documenting results, writing reports, and ensuring that all flocks, farms, and incubation facilities are approved for use and are managed in accordance with our local requirements.

Site End-User Interaction:

  • The individual will be required to interact with the various enduser departments on site ensuring compliance with local and global policies and regulatory requirement, addressing issues related to egg quality, and supporting quality improvement activities.

Non-Egg Supply Base Support:

  • The individual is responsible for supporting the overall quality deliverables from the non-egg supply base for the site. This includes that items, such as audits, supplier responses, surveys, quality agreements, etc…, are completed and followed-up on as required.

Supplier Issues:

  • The individual is responsible for facilitating the resolution of issues with materials used in the manufacture of our products. This requires the individual to directly interface with various departments and internal customers of our operation, as well as our supply base.

Inspection Readiness:

  • The individual is responsible for supporting site regulatory and corporate audit activities as required. Information and systems required to demonstrate compliance must be maintained and available for review at all times.

Team Support:

  • The individual will be required to lead and work on cross-functional teams to support site initiatives as needed, monitoring and communicating KPIs to senior management and suppliers.

Context of Job/ Major Challenges

  • The Manager – Egg Program, Supplier Quality is responsible for the planning and execution of all egg related inspection activities according to regulatory requirements, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • The individual will be required to work closely with various departments across the site related to embryonated eggs. This will include direct support of Biologics Manufacturing operations and spending an appropriate portion of their time within the focus factory operation. Some interaction with global counterparts may be required.
  • This position requires travel and the job holder can expect to spend up to 80% of their time away from the site. Individual must hold valid drivers license and have clean driving record. Furthermore, this individual may not own or care for birds or swine for biosecurity reasons.

Breadth of responsibility (global/regional/country/site):

  • Local; Toronto Site

Financial Dimensions:

  • This position has limited budgetary responsibility and purchasing authority.
  • Human Resources Dimensions: This position does not have direct reports.
  • Statistical Dimensions: This position is responsible for the egg quality program. Requirements of the program results in minimum 100 inspections on nearly 20 flocks and 3 incubation facilities each year.
  • The position requires an understanding of poultry science at the farm and incubation facility level and GMP operations in an FDA and Health Canada regulated environment.
  • The individual will conduct monthly meetings with internal stakeholders (e.g. Sanofi Veterinary Science Experts, Procurement, Manufacturing, M-Tech representatives) to ensure supply and local regulatory guidelines are met with suppliers.
  • In addition to the egg-related work activities, the individual will be required to support departmental activities and cross-train on the other Supplier Quality work streams.
  • This position requires the ability to work in a diverse environment and draw upon experience in determining the difference between critical and non-critical issues and their impact on the business.
  • As this individual is the interface between Sanofi Pasteur and our supply base, it is expected that a high level of professionalism, respect for the customers and a non-biased approach are employed during each inspection or audit.

Freedom to act, level of autonomy:

  • The individual will work independently, driving actions to completion, while having autonomy in decision making.
  • Some team/project activities may result in more direct oversight.



  • Minimum Bachelor degree, with at least 5 years relevant pharmaceutical industry experience; extensive experience in the industry and/or poultry science may offset the need for a Bachelor degree.
  • The individual must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and auditing practices. Strong writing and communication skills, good organization, and interpersonal skills are also required.
  • Egg Quality Assurance Certification is preferred.
