Position Summary:
The Deputy Director (DD) of Filling and Inspection is a core member of the FF&P APU Platform that is accountable for the overall safety, quality/compliance and productivity/performance of the manufacturing area. The DD works cross-functionally and collaboratively within an Autonomous Production Unit and Team (APU/APT) consisting of peers from Operations, Quality, M. Tech, Technical Services, HSE, Finance, Supply Chain. and M.E. to achieve the objectives and deliver on the vision of the FF&P Platform.
The DD of Filling and Inspection leads programs to improve employee safety, improve quality, reduce costs, and increase production efficiencies as per established goals. Responsibilities include planning workforce development to meet projected requirements and remain compliant with cGMP, CBER, FDA and required international regulations. Specific responsibilities include: assuring quality of product; inventory control; employee selection; training; development, counseling, and managing employee relations issues; recommendations for cost reductions; profit improvement and cost control; and managing departmental capital and operations budgets. As required, fills in for direct manager.
The DD is a member of the Filling and Packaging APT and reports directly into the Sr. Director of the FF&P APU. Reporting into the Deputy Director are the Production Shift managers, the Compliance Professional and the Filling Technical Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leads and/or supports various support teams (i.e. FFaST) of Reps, Managers, Engineers, Product/Process Team Leader to coordinate functions (e.g. Manufacturing, Warehousing, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Operations Planning) to analyze and optimize the manufacturing and business aspects of the specific area and/or the supply chain process in a controlled compliant manner. This responsibility is carried out through regular and periodic meetings with the various stakeholder groups. This responsibility is important to ensure alignment of production processes and functions. Provides direction for and assists with development of area Production Managers.
2. Through direction of production staff, shop floor teams, inventory control, and interaction with product/process teams ensures that sufficient quality product is available to meet requirements for domestic, foreign, and contracted sales, based upon the approved business plan. Development and implementation of new processes into existing systems to optimize production capacity. This will ensure current demand for product can be met; or exceeded as increased market share is captured.
3. Responsible for special projects including providing assistance and recommendations regarding buildings, equipment, and processes relating to the integration of the manufacturing area. Development of working relationships and strong communication links through all levels of the organization. Provides day-to-day support for the production floor to support completion of short-term projects.
4. Develop and manage performance to meet corporate strategic and operational objectives through establishment of manufacturing initiatives related to safety, quality, productivity and development of organizational talent. This responsibility is accomplished by interacting with employees at all levels. It is important to create alignment and efficiencies in the supply chain as well as fostering leadership, problem solving and results at the shop floor level.
5. Provide leadership and monitoring of production and support personnel to optimize impact to the department/business. Active participant in the performance management development planning cycle for all direct reports and for the department as a whole, including flex personnel. This will be done through alignment of personnel, support of the flex scheduling program, prioritization of projects, continual training on new equipment/processes and scheduling aligned with efficient operation of the department.

• Site – Lead all aspects for the Filling and Inspection Unit, in Toronto. Provide Filled and Inspected products to fulfill the demands of the Canadian, US & International markets.
• Key dimensions: headcount (direct and indirect) budget, doses, Capex… – Key indicators on which the job holder will be evaluated:
• Leading 5 day per week operation to meet a demanding production schedule, while exceeding the increasing requirements for quality and safety, which requires a great degree of flexibility and creativity.
• Individual is responsible for the filling and inspection of products to US and international markets representing >US$750 million in sales value. Approximately >12 million filled containers at the Toronto Site.

• Strong autonomy required to lead production unit.
This position independently supports all production activities in the assigned product/process area. Under minimal guidance, provides analysis and recommendations to management on all operations related matters. Decisions must be made in a dynamic setting taking into account and balancing a changing business environment, business priorities, product and process deadlines, and compliance issues. Must address internal and external regulatory requirements.
Key Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree in Life Sciences, Engineering or Management with 7-10 years in a management related role in a similar industry.
• 10+ years experience in pharmaceutical, bio-pharmaceutical or vaccine manufacturing operations including specific experience in aseptic processing for sterile final products. Knowledge of manufacturing operations, sterile processing facility and equipment design, and cGMP and safety regulations.
