Driving advancements in energy and environmental sustainability

The Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment (Verschuren Centre) is a leading Canadian clean technology development and scale up facility located in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This center stands at the forefront of innovation, dedicated to advancing sustainable technologies that can help address global issues of climate change and greening supply chains. The Verschuren Centre supports the transition of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to commercial uptake by industry, communities and governments, in fields such as green energy solutions and biomanufacturing, towards a common path to net zero 2050. In support of these ambitions the Verschuren Centre has leading edge biomanufacturing facilities supported by energy transition, carbon materials and analytical capabilities. A holistic and multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians and scientists support client SMEs through their development of globally responsive technology solutions. The center’s network of ecosystem partners throughout North America and Europe supports our clients’ accelerated path to commercial deployment, achieving positive impact for both industry and the Verschuren Centre toward a more sustainable and resilient world.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Verschuren Centre’s next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance the Centre’s mission of promoting sustainable development through innovation and collaboration. The CEO is responsible for overall management, operational oversight, financial stewardship, and stakeholder engagement to drive strategic growth. The CEO is a collaborative leader who inspires and motivates all groups and partners to achieve a shared vision. They provide exceptional leadership and organizational stewardship, while ensuring operational excellence within the Centre.

The CEO is a catalyst for building relationships both inside and outside the organization, including a range of government, community, SMEs and corporate business partners. They are results-oriented, people-focused, and passionate about decarbonizing and advancing smart materials in the global economy. They lead a high-performing team and instill an organizational culture of client-oriented growth at speed, efficiency, performance excellence, entrepreneurial spirit and shared values.

The ideal candidate holds an advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, biology, business administration, management). They bring a minimum of ten years of senior leadership experience particularly in the challenges of SME growth, venture funds, clean tech focused on success, a path to profitability and business growth. The successful candidate will be a forward thinking and nimble leader with a commitment to sustainability and a proven track record in leading multidisciplinary groups of clients and teams.
