Summary  of Prairies Region Employment Outlooks by Subsector

A table showing the employment outlooks by sub-sector for the Prairies.  For the region’s bio-economy as a whole, there was a 15.7% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 11,400 workers by 2020, drop to 10,750 by 2024 and then rise again to 11,400 by 2029.  For the bio-health sub-sector, there was 16.7% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 6,900 employees by 2020, drop to 6,450 employees by 2024 and then rise again to 6,700 employees by 2029.  For the bio-industrial sub-sector, there was 39.4% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 1,650 employees by 2020, drop to 1,300 employees by 2024 and then rise again to 1,400 by 2029.  For the agri-bio sub-sector, there was 8.2% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 1,800 employees by 2020, to 1,900 employees by 2024 and to 2,100 employees by 2029.  For the bio-energy sub-sector, there was 3.9% decrease in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to drop to 1,050 employees by 2020, then rise to 1,100 employees by 2024 and to 1,150 employees by 2029.
