Summary  of Ontario Region Employment Outlooks by Subsector

A table showing the employment outlooks by sub-sector for Ontario.  For the province’s bio-economy as a whole, there was a 6% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 80,000 workers by 2020, to 81,000 by 2024 and to 85,000 by 2029.  For the bio-health sub-sector, there was 8.2% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 51,000 employees by 2020, to 51,400 employees by 2024 and to 53,500 employees by 2029.  For the bio-industrial sub-sector, there was 0.6% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 16,300 employees by 2020, to 17,400 employees by 2024 and rise to 19,200 by 2029.  For the agri-bio sub-sector, there was 6.4% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 7,800 employees by 2020, remain at 7,800 employees by 2024 and rise to 8,300 employees by 2029.  For the bio-energy sub-sector, there was 2.1% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 4,800 employees by 2020, drop to 4,500 employees by 2024 and to 4,400 employees by 2029.
