Summary of Atlantic Region Employment Outlooks by Subsector

A table showing the employment outlooks by sub-sector for Atlantic Canada. For the region’s bio-economy as a whole, there was a 0.6% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 10,900 workers by 2020, to 11,200 by 2024 and to 11,500 by 2029. For the bio-health sub-sector, there was 4.3% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 5,500 employees by 2020, to 5,600 employees by 2024 and to 5,800 employees by 2029. For the bio-industrial sub-sector, there was 5.3% decrease in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to drop to 1,500 employees by 2020, rise to 1,600 employees by 2024 and remain at 1,600 by 2029. For the agri-bio sub-sector, there was 2.4% decrease in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to drop to 3,300 employees by 2020, then rise to 3,400 employees by 2024 and to 3,600 employees by 2029. For the bio-energy sub-sector, employment demand stayed the same from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to remain at 500 employees until 2024, then drop to 480 employees by 2029.
