Quebec Bio-Economy Hiring Requirement Outlook by Job Function, 2021-2029

For manufacturing and production, an estimated 3,970 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 680 additional workers in 2021; 480 in 2022; 560 in 2023; 460 in 2024; 240 in 2025; 380 in 2026; 360 in 2027; 390 in 2028; 420 in 2029. This represents 25% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For research and development, an estimated 3,150 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 230 fewer workers in 2021 followed by 460 additional workers in 2022; 510 in 2023; 430 in 2024; 180 in 2025; 440 in 2026; 420 in 2027; 460 in 2028; 480 in 2029. This represents 20% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For management, finance and administration, an estimated 2,480 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 110 additional workers in 2021; 330 in 2022; 370 in 2023; 320 in 2024; 160 in 2025; 300 in 2026; 280 in 2027; 300 in 2028; 310 in 2029. This represents 16% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For distribution and logistics, an estimated 870 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 30 additional workers in 2021; 120 in 2022; 140 in 2023; 110 in 2024; 40 in 2025; 110 in 2026; 100 in 2027; 110 in 2028; 110 in 2029. This represents 6% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For marketing, business development and sales, an estimated 850 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 130 additional workers in 2021; 100 in 2022; 120 in 2023; 100 in 2024; 30 in 2025; 100 in 2026; 80 in 2027; 90 in 2028; 100 in 2029. This represents 5% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For quality control and assurance, an estimated 730 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 60 additional workers in 2021; 90 in 2022; 110 in 2023; 80 in 2024; 20 in 2025; 80 in 2026; 90 in 2027; 100 in 2028; 100 in 2029. This represents 5% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For information technology, an estimated 340 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 20 fewer workers in 2021 followed by 50 additional workers in 2022; 60 in 2023; 50 in 2024; less than 10 in 2025; 50 in 2026; 50 in 2027; 50 in 2028; 50 in 2029. This represents 2% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For legal and regulatory affairs, an estimated 160 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 60 fewer workers in 2021 followed by 30 additional workers in 2022; 30 in 2023; 30 in 2024; 10 in 2025; 30 in 2026; 30 in 2027; 30 in 2028; 30 in 2029. This represents 1% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy.  For “other” job functions, an estimated 3,020 additional workers will need to be hired by 2029, broken down by year as follows: 280 additional workers in 2021; 370 in 2022; 400 in 2023; 350 in 2024; 230 in 2025; 340 in 2026; 340 in 2027; 350 in 2028; 360 in 2029. This represents 19% of the overall hiring requirement in the province’s bio-economy
