Definition of occupation
The IT Manager plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates various IT activities within an organization. They also develop plans, policies, and procedures throughout the software development life cycle to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of software products and information systems. They analyze and provide advice on a wide range of issues such as design, development, implementation, operation, and administration of computer and telecommunications software, networks, and information systems.
The IT Manager leads information systems personnel to design, develop, implement, operate, and administer computer and telecommunications software, networks, and information systems. As such, they often have access to confidential information and must demonstrate strong ethical behaviour (and risk management) to ensure they meet organizational, personal, and governmental confidentiality policies and regulations in order to maintain and grow the company’s reputation and operations. The IT Manager also recruits and supervises computer analysts, engineers, programmers, technicians, and other personnel, and oversees their professional development and training.
