Biotech experts identify challenges and opportunities facing the Canadian bio-economy

BioTalent Canada announced preliminary findings from its most recent bio-economy Labour Market Information (LMI) study. The data in this new brief—Amplifying Success— was collected from a series of industry roundtable discussions, analysis of Statistics Canada data sources, and a systematic review of sector-based reports and articles.

Employers have long identified a skills and knowledge gap in the bio-economy. The purpose of the completed LMI study is to help close that gap and provide stakeholders with a clear picture of trends shaping the biotechnology industry.

Canadian healthcare gains access to national Student Placement Program

BioTalent Canada is expanding its successful national Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) to Canadian healthcare for the first time.

Providing wage subsidies to healthcare students builds on BioTalent Canada’s successful track record of delivering SWPP in the bioscience industry since 2017. Over the past three years, with its many wage subsidy programs including SWPP, BioTalent Canada has placed 2,650 students with biotechnology companies across the country.

Canadian bio-economy youth work placement program exceeds targets

BioTalent Canada announced that “Career Starter,” one of BioTalent Canada’s newest wage subsidy programs—has generated high levels of interest industry-wide and has exceeded all expectations.

“We’re encouraged by the overwhelming and rapid response to the Career Starter wage subsidy program,” says Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “As a diverse country our bio-economy should follow suit. Career Starter was designed to provide barriered youth with an opportunity to enter the bio-economy workforce and to give employers access to an underrepresented source of talent,” he said.
