Championing people, powering progress: Applications open for fourth annual I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience Employer(TM) Recognition Program

OTTAWA, September 22, 2025 – Now entering its fourth year, the I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience Employer™ Recognition Program from BioTalent Canada has opened its call for submissions from organizations looking to highlight what they have done to champion people as much as innovation and inspire others across the bio-economy.

The recognition celebrates employers who understand that Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility are foundational elements of a strong workplace culture and key drivers of the life-changing innovations they create.

“Organizations that embrace IDEA principles are building a stronger, more resilient talent pipeline for Canada’s bio-economy,” says Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “As talent shortages continue to challenge the sector, a commitment to IDEA offers a meaningful and strategic solution to drive equity and innovation.”

Many bioscience employers are already building healthier, more resilient workplaces, whether they call it IDEA or not. With talent shortages looming and competition for skilled workers rising, creating a strong, inclusive workplace has become the key to being future-ready. These principles hold true for several of the previous year’s recipients, who credit the recognition with supporting their broader organizational goals.

“Receiving the I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience Employer™ Recognition will support us in strengthening external partnerships with like-minded organizations,” says Chenny Xia, Co-founder and CEO of Gotcare. “Supporting the upskilling of unregulated professionals – especially in the context of digital health skills in today’s modern world – enables the maximization of their scope of practice, which in turn can reduce the overall burnout and stress that the broader care team faces.”

About the I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience EmployerTM Recognition Program

The I.D.E.A.L Bioscience Employer recognition program, which represents Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Leadership, will recognize organizations in Canada’s bio-economy leading the way in embodying the diverse and inclusive corporate principles needed to promote growth and success in the sector.

Organizations under 50 employees and over 50 employees who apply for the I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience Employer recognition will be evaluated and benchmarked on IDEA best practices. The program is not an award but rather an annual designation for which companies can apply and be granted if they reach or surpass established benchmarks. Organizations who fail to attain the designation will be given instructions and suggestions on how to improve.
