OTTAWA, December 19, 2019 – BioTalent Canada announced today the launch of the Catalyst Award for Top New Hire – now in its fifth year. The award celebrates the achievements of young employees in making a positive impact on Canada’s bio-economy while highlighting the biotech companies that helped nurture their success.
The Catalyst Award for Top New Hire was created in 2015 to recognize employers who invest in young talent and the young innovators they hired through BioTalent Canada’s wage subsidy programs. Following the success of their Student Work Placement Program – which has helped over 900 students gain career-ready experience, eligibility now includes co-op students, like Mina Huang, winner of the 2019 Catalyst Award.
“Bio-economy businesses are experiencing first-hand the benefit from wage subsidies to give young innovators the opportunity to showcase their abilities,” says Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “It’s a pleasure to showcase the accomplishments of young bio-economy professionals because of this financial support.”
Biotechnology employers are invited to submit applications, describing their most recent hires through the programs – how these young scientists and entrepreneurs have enhanced innovation and made substantial contributions to their companies.
As the HR partner and a catalyst for growth in Canada’s bio-economy, BioTalent Canada has built relationships with employers, associations, academic institutions, governments and job seekers to address and alleviate the two key challenges still facing industry leaders – access to capital and access to talent. Its many wage subsidy programs to hire recent graduates continue to be a successful way to ensure this access.
The 2020 Catalyst Award is accepting entries from employers until January 31, 2020. The winner will be announced in Spring 2020 and will be awarded a $1,000 prize. More information and the application form to the 2020 Catalyst Award are available at biotalent.ca/Catalyst2020.
