Overall, 16,060 workers are employed in the bio-economy in the Metro Vancouver area.  The R&D in physical, engineering and life sciences industry (NAICS 541710) employs 3,140 workers, representing 20% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  The pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing industry (NAICS 3254) employs 3,010 workers, representing 19% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  Testing laboratories (NAICS 541380) employ 1,880 workers, representing 12% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  Hospitals (NAICS 6220) employ 1,840 workers, representing 11% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  The medical equipment and supplies manufacturing industry (NAICS 339110) employs 1,410 workers, representing 9% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  “Other” industries employ 4,780 workers, representing 29% of total bio-economy employment in the area.
