The R&D in physical, engineering and life sciences industry (NAICS 541710) employs 8,820 workers, representing 26% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  The pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing industry (NAICS 3254) employs 6,030 workers, representing 18% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  Hospitals (NAICS 6220) employ 3,310 workers, representing 10% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  The soap, cleaning compound and toilet preparation manufacturing industry (NAICS 3256) employs 2,550 workers, representing 8% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  Testing laboratories (NAICS 541380) employ 2,330 workers, representing 7% of total bio-economy employment in the area.  “Other” industries employ 10,360 workers, representing 31% of total bio-economy employment in the area.
