Job Description
The OHRI has an opening for a full-time Research Technician in the research laboratory of Dr. Bill Stanford. This position’s primary purpose will be processing blood and bone marrow samples, perform flow cytometry and related analysis of leukemia patient samples, and manage patient sample databases. Secondary duties include tissue culture and performing molecular biology experiments and lab administrative duties. The successful candidate will implement cutting edge technologies to advance our research projects and will have the opportunity to learn and grow with the position. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, organized, and attentive to detail with a strong work ethic and interpersonal skills. They will join a multidisciplinary team working on stem cell biology.

Responsibilities include:
•Sterile processing of umbilical cord blood, peripheral blood, and bone marrow samples from patients including those enrolled in clinical trials.
•Performing flow cytometry analysis of clinical samples.
•Performing immunofluorescence microscopy analysis of clinical samples.
•Manage inventory of primary patient samples.
•Perform defined molecular biology and biochemistry experiments in collaboration with lab members, such as drug assay.
•Present research progress in lab meetings and to external collaborators.
•Culture various cell lines and maintain lab stocks.
•Manage inventory of cell lines.
•Assist in administrative tasks, such as lab inventory, procurement.
•Maintain updated records electronically for all procedures and tasks.
•Supervise and assist trainees in research projects as needed.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
•BSc in biological sciences combined with experience in cell culture, cell-based and quality control assays.
•1-5 years of experience working in a research laboratory
•Possess excellent sterile technique and experience in mammalian cell culture.
•Experience in basic molecular biology techniques: DNA and RNA extractions, molecular cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
•Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Ability to manage a large number of samples.
•Excellent record keeping and ability to use an electronic database.
•Time management skills and flexibility with respect to multitasking and balancing multiple projects.
•Ability to work both independently and in teams.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
•MSc in biological or biomedical sciences.
•Experience in flow cytometry.
•Experience in immunofluorescence microscopy.
•Experience in quality control.

Compensation Pay Range:
Min: $28.993/hr.- Max: $38.658/ hr
