Consider joining Genome Canada’s progressive and growing team as their new Knowledge Broker Intern.    

Reporting to the Director, Genomics in Society, and the Director, Strategic Impact and Evaluation, the Knowledge Broker role will support Genome Canada’s efforts in the area of knowledge mobilization and impact.  This would include supporting stakeholder engagement, and consultations, translating research into plain language knowledge products for varying audiences, implementing knowledge products and research in new settings, and undertaking qualitative and quantitative research analysis.  This will help the organization move towards co-creation of work, and drive uptake and adoption of our research investments.

Key Responsibilities Include:  

 

Stakeholder and Community Engagement Support

• Work closely across Genome Canada with program leads to identify and map key partners and stakeholders

• Undertake environmental scans and needs assessments, and work with the Directors to support stakeholder and community engagement initiatives to inform and shape impact-driven challenges

Knowledge Mobilization and Implementation Support

• Assist in developing and implementing knowledge mobilization plans on assigned projects and initiatives

• Support executing knowledge mobilization plans (e.g., supporting the development of varying knowledge products from our research investments, supporting the planning of events (e.g., webinars, policy forum)

Knowledge Mobilization Capacity Building  

• Participate in continuous learning and peer-to-peer learning opportunities with colleagues, partners and networks to advance knowledge and competency of effective knowledge mobilization practices in the genomics field  

Quantitative and Qualitative Research and Analysis Support  

• Support analytical research documents on a range of topics related to genomics impacts, uptake, translation, innovation and research

• Assess and present quantitative data for patterns, key findings and trends

Thought Leadership & Communications Support

• Identify opportunities to position Genome Canada as a national thought leader in the area of Genomics in Society/Knowledge Mobilization and work with Communications to support the execution of these opportunities

Qualifications  

• Undergraduate degree in political science, economics, science communications and/or related field

• Understanding of knowledge mobilization, knowledge translation or implementation science

• Understanding of aspects of knowledge mobilization (e.g., generation, synthesis, product development, knowledge translation and exchange, dissemination, management, evaluation)

• Ability to review, analyze and summarize genomics research (including Genomics and its Environmental, Economic, Ethical, Legal and Social aspects (GE3LS) research) in plain language (presentations and writing)

• Familiarity with stakeholder engagement, consultation, and related data collection through a variety of mechanisms, including surveys, focus groups and social media

• Strong organizational skills; experience multitasking and managing multiple priorities with competing deadlines

• Enthusiastic and high-energy team player

• Fluency in English is essential and in French a definite asset
