In Focus

As the baby-boom generation begins to retire, Canada’s bio-economy is facing the same challenge the rest of the Canadian and advanced world economies face: not enough educated and skilled workers to fill the gap. Tapping into underrepresented talent pools such as new graduates, women, Internationally Educated Professionals and persons with disabilities will be critical for Canada to continue to foster innovation and be a real world leader in biotechnology. Take advantage of programs like BioSkills Recognition, Opportunities Fund and Career Focus and leverage skilled talent to build your business.

BioReady and Hired!

“Happy news! Got the job!” speaks to the goal of the BioSkills Recognition program, when one of the recent participants landed a job at a top biotech firm. IEPs bring talent, innovation and a new perspective to Canadian employers. However, many talented professionals continue to have their skills and experience overlooked by hiring managers within the Canadian bio-economy, which is a disadvantage to both groups.

Resources for the Opportunities Fund Wage Subsidy Program

The Opportunities Fund wage subsidy program aims to alleviate the low employment of persons with disabilities in biotech by introducing a wage subsidy to off-set the start-up costs of orientation, integration and skills development.

To facilitate successful job placements, BioTalent Canada’s project partner, National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS), developed a directory with resources to help both job seekers and employers navigate the details to foster inclusion of persons with disabilities within the workplace.
