Job Description

Synaptive is looking to increase our capacity for electrical testing within the System Test team. This is not a job for anyone scared of learning and challenges! We are looking for someone with a passion for testing, who can understand complex hardware requirements. This is a hands-on role that requires the tester to be a critical investigator, a resourceful problem-solver, and a supportive team member. We need individuals who will be eager to become product experts.

What You’ll Do

  • Take ownership of various design verification activities for electrical components and subsystems
  • Work closely with the development team to understand and scrutinize complex hardware requirements
  • Design, develop, and execute test procedures; complete documentation for results and reports
  • Use exploratory test techniques to provide early testing feedback throughout the design and development process
  • Design and develop methods and test tools – both manual and automated - to aid in efficient and systematic testing (including data capture for record keeping purposes)
  • Participate in the assessment of potential product hazards and devise appropriate tests to verify mitigation of identified risks
  • Participate in design reviews to discuss implementation details and suggest improvements/features
  • Accurately report and track product defects; verify hardware bug fixes and perform regression testing
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to define and perform testing for design verification including EMC testing and other external laboratory testing related to electrical and safety requirements
  • Assist with the process of transferring the design to manufacturing; help generate manufacturing instructions and associated in-process test methods, including helping to automate some aspects of the manufacturing process (e.g. using test jigs)
  • Once the product is released to the market, work closely with the service team to investigate and resolve customer issues
  • Manage test equipment to comply with calibration requirements and perform inspection and maintenance to ensure test equipment are in good working condition

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering technology (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years professional hardware verification experience in an organization conducting new product development
  • Experience testing printed circuit assemblies
  • Hands-on expertise with electrical Test and Measurement equipment: oscilloscopes (voltage/current/power), multimeters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators

It’d Be Amazing If You Had

  • Experience in a regulated industry (e.g. medical, automotive, aerospace)
  • Experience designing specialized electro-mechanical test fixtures
  • Familiarity with VISA architecture and SCPI language
  • Scripted automated testing (e.g. using Python or C# with Test and Measurement equipment)
  • Prior interface with external test providers, testing per IEC60601-1 and FCC standards
  • Knowledge of the following standards: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, ISO 13485, ISO 14971s
  • Electrical safety testing (e.g. HiPOT, ground-bond, leakage)
  • Experience using JIRA or other similar development management software

About You

  • Ability to work closely with multiple teams to ensure quality and timely product delivery
  • Friendly and positive attitude
  • Self-motivated and self-managing
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work in a highly-technical, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to seek out additional information where sufficient input is lacking to proceed with testing
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively even when presenting product issues to owners of product’s design and architecture
  • Ability to take ownership of a problem and see it through resolution
