About the Position

The Senior Research Associate will provide laboratory support for the oncology therapeutics efforts in the discovery and development of new therapies. 

The ideal candidate will have broad cell and molecular biology experience, is able to interact across functional groups, and capable of working in a highly dynamic and fast-paced lab environment.

This position will report to the Principal Scientist, Oncology and will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Education & Qualifications: 

BSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related scientific discipline and a minimum of 5 to 8 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.    

  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high paced, fast changing environment. Results-oriented. 
  • Critical observation skills and strong statistical analysis capability. 
  • Excellent oral, presentation and scientific/technical writing skills. 
  • Hands-on experience with basic cell and molecular techniques including, but not limited to: cell culture, viability, proliferation, and immunoassays (e.g. Flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blots, SPR, microscopy) is essential.
  • Experience with latest gene/protein expression and purification methods is preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Performs advanced experiments following established methods.  
  • Applies knowledge of scientific methodologies, techniques, processes and procedures in conducting more technically demanding analyses. Troubleshoots methods and suggests novel and impactful changes to methods. 
  • Plans out next set of experiments to be performed in order to properly advance program. 
  • Documents raw and analyzed data. Independently interprets results and presents to team.  
  • Prepares written reports and analysis of complex experiments.  
  • May provide advanced technical guidance.  
  • Reviews work of team members for thoroughness and completeness. 
  • Seeks to understand ongoing projects through extensive attention to scientific literature and internally generated data.   
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, neat, organized and operational lab. 
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OH&S regulations and established policies and practices. 
  • May co-author or author scientific papers.  
  • Actively works to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management and external partners.
