To support our rapid growth, we have an immediate opening for a Research Technologist - Nanomaterials Chemist, with our Research and Development group in the Vancouver, Canada office. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, developing new products, improve current technologies, and test competing products. The candidate will be expected to work independently to perform standard experiments. In addition, the Research Technologist will contribute to maintaining the general functioning of the R&D laboratory, keep written records of laboratory procedures, and experimental results according to company standards.

Education & Qualifications: 
  • A BSc degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or related area
  • 0-4 years of work experience, including co-op or internships in an academic or industrial research laboratory
  • Experience with organic synthesis, conjugation, polymers, inorganic synthesis and analytical chemistry techniques
  • Knowledge of materials characterization techniques including: DLS, Zeta-potential, TGA, SEM, bioanalytical, UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy, flow analysis, chromatography or others
  • Hands-on experience with nanomaterials, colloidal synthesis or surface/coordination chemistry would be a considerable asset
  • Knowledge of biological systems would be an advantageous
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Documented ability to multi-task and work well in a team
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles and microparticles including surface coatings
  • Perform a variety of specialized lab procedures for chemical and biological characterization of materials
  • Perform data analysis with guidance from supervisor
  • Present data at R&D data meetings as directed by supervisor
  • Continually increase knowledge of laboratory techniques and products
  • Troubleshoot standard experiments and contribute to scientific discussions
  • Assist with maintaining the lab as requested (e.g. inventory of supplies, waste disposal, safety measures)
  • Assist with department operations as requested (e.g. filing reports, data management)
  • Comply with required QMS procedures including maintenance of a signed laboratory notebook
