The Mechanical Engineer, GMP will contribute to the development, design, and implementation of facilities infrastructure systems supporting STEMCELL’s operation, including but not limited to clean room operation and maintenance, high purity water systems, compressed gas systems, compressors, boilers, fume hoods, exhaust fans, HVAC and humidification. The candidate will work closely with STEMCELL personnel, suppliers and contractors to support the repair, maintenance and improvements of building infrastructure systems under Facilities Maintenance Program.

Education & Qualifications: 
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years’ experience in mechanical design and maintenance or related work; a combination of mechanical and electrical experience/skills is advantageous.
  • Experience in an industrial/production facility is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other similar technical field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including demonstrated experience with compressed gas systems, chillers, HPWS Water systems and HVAC.
  • Possess a safety oriented mindset.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Experience building system automation and controls is an asset.
  • Mechanically inclined with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Communicates and responds effectively in demanding situations.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills both in one-on-one and in a group setting.
  • Team oriented yet self-motivated and mature to work independently, detail-oriented and proficient at time management.
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Perform design, implementation and commissioning tasks applying code, standards and technical calculations or analysis.
  • Perform tests, collect data and gather information in generating reports and written records to support system qualification and validation.
  • Analyze, interpret and evaluate complex issues based on system design using Facility Maintenance tools.  
  • Propose system improvements to enhance uptime, performance, robustness, maintenance cost and design.
  • Maintain facilities systems (lighting, HVAC, steam, plumbing) as per maintenance program; maintain accurate records of work performed on controlled documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment performance issues, including after-hours issues.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance work with building owner management, user groups and contractors; coordinate and supervise third-party maintenance activities and service contracts.
  • Collaborate with user groups and quality management to ensure building programs are aligned with STEMCELL’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure that building-related operations and maintenance are conducted in accordance to STEMCELL’s Quality Management System (QMS), including ISO13485 and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • Document deficiencies, complete reports; conduct and document commissioning and qualification.
  • Create operational SOPs for Facilities; participate in required training and read relevant SOPs.
  • Ensure utility, electrical and mechanical rooms are kept clean and free of debris; assist with overall housekeeping of the facility.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of facilities equipment, spare parts and supplies.
  • Resolve user comfort issues involving work with HVAC and DDC (direct digital control system).
  • Contribute to ongoing development of the Preventive Maintenance program, including scheduling adjustments, contractor reviews and recommendations.
  • Update existing CAD drawing file for any infrastructure changes.
  • Provide clean room trend analysis data and reports.
  • Working outside of normal business hours may be periodically required to minimize operation downtime
