Job Description Summary

STEMCELL has an immediate opening for a Human Resources Generalist. This role works closely with the Associate Director, HR (Sales & Marketing) to deliver and execute a broad range of HR services and support to the assigned business units based in North America and China. Responsibilities include HRIS management, compensation and benefits, employee relations, disability management, conflict resolution, recruitment, training and development, and performance management in accordance with the established HR strategies, programs, policies, practices and processes. 

The successful candidate will be a broadly skilled HR professional looking for a growth opportunity with the end goal of serving as a trusted advisor to employees at all levels. You are self-motivated to learn and grow your HR knowledge base in all practice areas, demonstrate the required confidence to deliver training and presentations to an audience, thrive under pressure and independently problem-solve through critical analysis.

Education & Qualifications: 
  • Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related field.  CPHR or working towards certification.
  • Substantial relevant and progressive HR experience, including at an HR Generalist level
  • Previous experience working in an HR structure with Centres of Excellence and HR Shared Services preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and personable, with ability to build strong relationships, including influencing, negotiating and communicating effectively with employees at all levels across the organization (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Proven attention to details, clarity and accuracy in written language, data and analysis
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize time and workload to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines, while being highly flexible and collaborative, with good tolerance for ambiguity and changing priorities
  • Excellent judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in applying B.C. employment laws and standards are mandatory
  • Previous experience with other countries employment laws such as US or China would be an advantage
  • Adept in dealing with sensitive and highly confidential HR issues with tact and discretion
  • Proficient working knowledge of HRIS systems (e.g. WorkDay), Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs and MS Office program
  • Passionate about meeting or exceeding goals and expectations
  • Team orientated –‘one-team’ behavior is a must
  • Chinese (Mandarin) is not essential but advantageous
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Work in partnership with the Associate Director, HR (Sales & Marketing)  to deliver superior client service for the assigned business units in all HR practice areas
  • Understand the current and future business needs in order to provide proactive, day-to-day HR services and support aligned to those needs
  • Establish effective employee relationships at all levels based on trust, experience and credibility by providing front-line HR consultation, advice and counsel
  • Respond to employee queries in a timely and solution-oriented manner
  • Support North America and China Sales & Marketing managers in sourcing, identifying and developing the next generation of leaders
  • Coordinate staffing plan, hiring approvals and offer terms for new employees; may participate in the recruitment for select positions and may manage candidate immigration and relocation
  • Assist with employee onboarding and exit processes
  • Facilitate training workshops, new hire orientation sessions and deliver presentations as needed
  • Review, prioritize and process HR administrative tasks, such as maternity leaves, disability claims and return to work programs
  • Provide HRIS (Workday) systems administration support to employees
  • Guide and support managers in the annual salary and promotion review process
  • Provide counsel and guidance on performance management and other employee relations matters
  • Analyze HR metrics through data retrieval from the HRIS systems and recommend improvements to the HR programs, processes and service levels
  • Continually build and maintain knowledge and understanding of employment laws and regulations, ensuring legal compliance and employment standards
  • Support management teams in operating in accordance with company policies and other legal principles and practices, including employment, human rights and immigration
  • Support the Associate Director, HR (Sales & Marketing) and HR functional teams in the planning, implementation, execution and roll-out of HR programs and processes
  • Other duties as assigned
