Job Description Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the strategy, development and manage our relentless focus on operational excellence as we continue to build a strong talent pipeline for Canada’s largest biotechnology company, STEMCELL Technologies Inc. We are seeking a key leader to ensure STEMCELL has the right talent to continue its growth.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Human Resources the Director, Talent Acquisition will build a global recruitment function capable of recruiting over 5,000 new employees over the next decade. You will provide hands-on, practical leadership to the talent acquisition team and ensure the consistent delivery of operational excellence over time. Develop and drive a strong employment brand that positions STEMCELL as the employer of choice in the industry, you will leverage social media and other innovative challenges to attract talent.

The successful candidate is a self-starter and strong team leader with significant experience in high volume recruiting. Ideally, you have a background in science and HR leadership roles. You have a strong track record of consistently delivering operational excellence over time. Smart, quick, with a strong work ethic, you are detail oriented, well organized, with strong time and project management skills. You have experience and expertise in building a global recruitment. And, you have the ability to build strong rapport across the organization.

Education & Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree or MBA in Organizational, Business, Psychology or related HR field
  • BSc preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in HR management role
  • Agile thought leader.
  • Expertise in building talent plans, talent reviews and succession planning capability.
  • Strong leadership of top talent development in alignment with workforce planning.
  • Broad and deep experience in the functional area of recruitment, talent management, performance management, diversity and inclusion, succession planning and executive recruiting.
  • Experience leading remote and intercultural teams. Able to connect and engage across multiple business lines, cultures, and functions.
  • Analytical mindset. Strong capacity to manipulate data to provide insights into talent gaps, opportunities and convert that into a talent story and agenda.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact, exercise discretion, judgment and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external customers and executive management
  • Proven relationship building, executive interface and presentation/facilitation skills
  • Has relentlessly high standards and is results oriented
  • Business acumen and strategic thinking, yet able to execute tactically
  • Detail oriented, well organized with strong time and project management skills
  • Team player with positive attitude with solid leadership skills who can easily handle shifting priorities, multi-tasking in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to take initiative, be accountable for individual and team results, and motivate self and others to set and achieve very high-performance standards
  • Must be able to work under pressure, manage time, set priorities and meet deadlines
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • As part of the Global HR leadership team, contribute to and align with global HR Strategy;
  • Develop robust recruitment strategies to support STEMCELL’s growth objectives
  • Ensure the recruiting function is appropriately staffed, structured and supported to meet the evolving needs of our business; taking into consideration region, service line support and talent supply/market patterns
  • Direct and manage full cycle recruiting efforts including branding, selection, interviewing, social media, hiring manager training, recruiting best practices, metrics and reporting analytics
  • Partner with Marketing and HR to develop and drive a strong employment brand that positions STEMCELL as an employer of choice amongst within the industry, professional communities and passive applicants, including the optimization of our social media approach
  • Leverage social media and innovative channels to drive messaging and attraction to STEMCELL’s employment brand
  • Develop and implement global talent management practices including talent and performance review programs
  • Develop, implement, monitor and communicate global diversity and inclusion programs aimed at gender parity (which STEMCELL has already achieved) and investment in Aboriginal talents.
  • Ensure strategies are in place to ensure a strong leadership talent pipeline across STEMCELL.
  • Act as an advisor to direct reports, providing functional expertise, coaching, training, direction and support
  • Support management and HR business partners worldwide with advice on Talent attraction to make them stronger partners to their business clients
