The Director of Information Systems, Project Management Office (IS PMO) is responsible for developing the project management methods and practices to ensure the successful implementation and execution of the IS related projects, programs and services for the business. In this role, you will establish the IS PMO function and serve as a key point of contact for STEMCELL’s leadership team and senior stakeholders, providing a conduit for their interests and objectives, while equally serving as a channel of engagement and communications from the IS PMO to the respective business unit or area. This role is integral in ensuring alignment between the delivery of solutions, capabilities and/or other project work against STEMCELL’s strategic goals, priorities and operational activities.

As a member of the IS management team, you will provide leadership direction and support in driving the functional project management maturity within the IS Department, in addition to tracking and reporting the conformance to project scope, budget and schedule. This involves the successful delivery and facilitation of change management initiatives to execute varying scales of project scope across the organization by working with the broader STEMCELL Project Management Community of Practice, sharing best practices and mentoring the project management team.

Education & Qualifications: 
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or a related field, and PMP certification or a combination of education and experience. Master’s degree and change management certification are assets.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading and managing varying scales of multi-disciplinary projects in an Information Technology and business / industry setting.  
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience of demonstrated leadership responsibilities in leading diverse teams. 
  • Demonstrated program management skills and experience, plus significant knowledge of project planning tools with evidence of practical application (highly desirable). Experience in applying a variety of project management methodologies (e.g. PMI PMBOK, Agile).
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) in developing and communicating the PMO vision to diverse business units. Ability to explain IT concepts and technologies to business leaders, and conversely, to explain business concepts to the PMO staff.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic resource plan.
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Engage senior leadership and business partners to foster a project management-oriented culture and mindset.
  • Lead the identification and implementation of project management processes, methods, tools and best practices. Establish a stable framework to improve the probability of successful project delivery.
  • Facilitate the agreed upon process in developing project plans and the prioritization by the Leadership Team.
  • Define and direct the required end-to-end PMO work effort, quantifying and tracking the realization of expected business benefits.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to PMO staff, both within the IS PMO and across the organization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders and key PMO stakeholders by acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by working with the broader STEMCELL Project Management Community of Practice to facilitate collaboration and the sharing of best practices amongst the project managers and key PMO stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the efforts of the business unit leadership group to identify and establish the best possible set of initiatives and projects aligned with their priorities, goals and objectives.
  • Engage with and conduct reviews with the business unit executives to validate and assess their project plans, including assisting with reprioritization to meet the needs of the business unit as required.
  • Identify and suggest reviews of any significant business unit initiatives or projects that are challenged in order to determine whether they should continue, significantly change, place on hold or discontinue.
  • Support the Vice President, Information Systems in communicating the PMO value contribution to the business units and enterprise by cementing the understanding that projects and programs are the mechanisms by which strategy is realized and change is delivered.
  • Support financial stewardship by highlighting any issues arising from the performance of individual projects to assure the consumption of resources and funding are on target.
