Job Description Summary

The Associate Director, Corporate Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and successful execution of all corporate projects that are part of the Corporate PMO within the Business Operations (BOP) department. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining an exceptional team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators, leading a strong cross-functional project management community, and championing projects that are in alignment with corporate strategy and goals. You will also serve as a key point of contact for STEMCELL’s senior leadership team, providing a conduit for their interests and objectives.

As a member of the BOP management team, you will provide leadership direction and support in driving the functional project management maturity within the department and across the organization.This involves working with the broader STEMCELL Project Management Community of Practice, sharing best practices and mentoring the project management team.  You will also be responsible for tracking and reporting the conformance to project scope, budget and schedule across the program and reporting these to the senior leadership team, in addition to successful delivery and facilitation of change management initiatives to execute varying scales of project scope across the organization.

Education & Qualifications: 
  • Experience working within biotech/pharma/life sciences industry mandatory.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (preferably in a life sciences-related field) and PMP certification or a combination of education and experience. Advanced degree and change management certification are assets.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience leading and managing varying scales of multi-disciplinary projects (preferably within the life sciences).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience of demonstrated leadership responsibilities in leading diverse teams.  
  • Demonstrated program management skills and experience, plus significant knowledge of project planning tools with evidence of practical application. Experience in applying a variety of project management methodologies (e.g. PMI PMBOK, Agile).
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) in developing and communicating the PMO vision to diverse audience and to the PMO staff.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic plan.
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Oversees the management and implementation of key corporate projects following STEMCELL’s corporate project management methodology; may manage key or critical projects, as required.
  • Engage senior leadership and cross-functional partners to foster a project management-oriented culture and mindset.
  • Lead the identification and implementation of project management processes, methods, tools and best practices. Establish a stable framework to improve the probability of successful project delivery.
  • Facilitate the agreed upon process in developing project plans and the prioritization by the senior leadership team.  
  • Define business analytics tools in collaboration with key stakeholders to support project opportunity evaluation and project prioritization.
  • Define and direct the required end-to-end PMO work effort, quantifying and tracking the realization of expected business results.
  • Recruit and manage a team of Project Managers & Coordinators within the PMO.  Conduct and document performance reviews and make compensation recommendations for direct reports in accordance with company policies and practices.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to staff within the Corporate PMO and across the organization.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by working with the broader STEMCELL Project Management Community of Practice to facilitate collaboration and the sharing of best practices amongst the Project Managers and key PMO stakeholders.
  • Engage with and conduct reviews with senior leaders to validate and assess their project plans, including assisting with reprioritization to meet the needs of the business as required.
  • Support financial stewardship by highlighting any issues arising from the performance of individual projects to assure the consumption of resources and funding are on target.
