Canada, rich in natural resources and driven by an innovative spirit, holds great potential for becoming a global agri-food superpower. Even amidst evolving market dynamics and current political factors, our sector demonstrates remarkable resilience. However, to become a global leader, the food and agri-tech sector faces significant challenges that it must overcome such as fragmented support systems and insufficient early-stage investments.
To expose and disseminate these issues, Bioenterprise Canada recently concluded an impactful series of roundtables, culminating in the release of our National Call to Action report. These roundtables brought together over 130 participants from more than 120 organizations, representing entrepreneurs, accelerators, academia, industry leaders, and investors. Together, they identified over 20 critical barriers and proposed more than 30 actionable solutions.
Key focus areas include enhancing collaboration and connectivity, streamlining regulatory processes, bridging resource and support gaps, and improving investment and funding mechanisms. The next step? Action.
To drive progress, it’s essential for all stakeholders to participate – provide feedback, engage, and contribute to the conversation. To foster collaboration and communication within the food and agri-tech ecosystem, Bioenterprise Canada has launched The Engine online – a thriving ecosystem that unites innovators, partners, and collaborators to accelerate the journey from bold ideas to market-ready solutions.
