In order to support our rapid growth, we are seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist (Particle Chemistry) for our Research and Development Department in our Vancouver, Canada office. The scientist will work in a hands-on, laboratory environment. This position is responsible for developing and testing new reagents and products for cell separation. The holder of this position will act as an in-house expert in particle/polymer synthesis bioconjugation and characterization as well as particle-cell interactions. In addition to managing their own projects they will provide training and support for junior lab staff.

Education & Qualifications: 

PhD (or equivalent) with > 2 years experience in a field related to biological applications of nanomaterials or polymers
Preferably at least 2 years of successful product development experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
Authored academic publications and PhD thesis or equivalent research report
Established a scientific reputation in the field and has successful external collaborations
Ability to prepare business plans for products in field of expertise
Competent with complex experimental design and has a history of innovation
Is a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Skilled presenter able to deliver technical summaries of data as well as high level explanations designed to support strategic decisions

Strong understanding of biological systems and experience in handling biological samples
Hands on experience in the synthesis and characterization of magnetic or non-magnetic nanomaterials, nanoparticles or colloids
Experience in designing novel characterization assays and high-throughput screening techniques to support product development
Skilled in surface chemistry techniques with extensive experience in bioconjugation of antibodies, proteins or nucleic acids
Knowledgeable in polymer chemistry including silica/silanes

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Fully responsible for a product line including performance criteria, research plan, quality of design, launch and technical support
Responsible for project planning including submissions for grant funding
Team lead for one or more major product development projects
Generate intellectual property, draft patent applications
Establish and manage external collaborations
Identifies new products and tracks competitor activity
Understands the field of research and applications, relate to product development, draft business plans and market analyses
Responsible for all technical documentation for a product line
Responsible for a project research budget
Support business development, perform literature and patent searches, evaluate new technologies
Acts as scientific ambassador for the company, makes external presentations, publishes abstracts and articles, establishes collaborations
