Job Description

Summary: 

We are currently seeking qualified applicants for a Laboratory Associate position. The ideal candidate should have a background in biology / biotechnology/biomedical engineering, or related sciences with cell culture experience. You will be dissecting and handling human/animal tissues/specimens, expanding, cryopreserving, and passaging human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in the laboratory, and preparing cell culture reagents / buffers in support of day-to-day product development. You will have familiarity with aseptic technique and be responsible for generating / following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and liaising with our research collaborators and clinical delivery teams. You will report to our Lead Project Coordinator / Research Scientist and will maintain detailed laboratory records, write weekly reports, and attend corporate meetings. You have the ability to respond to the evolving challenges of a small biotechnology firm and to take on exciting roles in a dynamic environment. You are self-motivated, a team-player, you excel in meticulous laboratory practice and can troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Education & Qualifications: 

BASc or BSc in Biology/Immunology/Biomedical Engineering/Biotechnology, or related field.

Experience: 

● Experience with mammalian cell culture including thawing, expansion, passaging, & cryopreservation
● Knowledge and application of aseptic technique and good laboratory practices.
● Comfortable handling and dissecting human and/or animal tissues and specimens
● Diligent in following and preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
● Preparation of culture media/reagents, buffers, solutions, and fixatives.
● Familiarity with/maintenance of standard cell culture equipment in a Level II Biosafety Laboratory
● Meticulousness in documenting and maintaining records in a lab notebook
● Strong computer skills (MS Office), ability to create reports and presentations.
● Experience with the scientific method, and with logical design of experiments

Duties & Responsibilities: 

● Cell culture including thawing, expansion, passaging, & cryopreservation.
● Preparation of culture media/reagents, buffers, solutions, and fixatives.
● Dissecting and / or processing human tissues.
● Maintaining biosafety cabinets, incubators, water bath and microscopes
● Documenting and maintaining records in a lab notebook
● Writing SOPs, preparing weekly reports and attending corporate meetings
● Assisting / liaising with R&D and clinical delivery teams on all collaborating projects.
