Recognize Talent

BioSkills Recognition Program

Program background

In 2007 BioTalent Canada conducted an environmental scan of internationally educated professionals (IEPs) in Canada's biotechnology sector. It was determined that there are four imperatives for harnessing the talents of internationally educated professionals:

  1. Canadian experience;
  2. English competency and cultural integration into the biotechnology business environment;
  3. Practical assessment of skills and confirmation of experience; and
  4. An industry broker to facilitate links between employers and prospective employees.

Program details

BioTalent Canada has taken the next steps and created an industry-led BioSkills Recognition Program to address these issues.

As a new program from BioTalent Canada, the BioSkills Recognition Program will be the industry’s seal of approval. It recognizes individuals as BioReadyTM to provide a valuable contribution to the bio-economy workforce.

The BioSkills Recognition Program is an industry-led program that was developed to create the ability for anyone entering the bio-economy workforce such as new graduates, internationally educated professionals (IEPs) and other job seekers to have their skills recognized and to be connected with employers in an efficient and reliable fashion. The BioSkills Recognition Program Pilot includes:

  • Creation of a BioTalent ePortfolio to document IEP's competences, credentials and their acquired skills through work and other experiences;
  • A Practical Observation, led by industry, to demonstrate competencies (where applicable); and /or
  • An Applied Workplace Skills Observation led by industry (where applicable).

What the BioSkills Recognition Program means for employers:

  • First-hand knowledge of the available pipeline of talent.
  • Pre-screened by industry for talent making recruitment easier.
  • Finding recognized BioReady talent with the new BioSkills MatchMC.
  • Employers can be involved as a member of the Competency Committee.

In addition, this project will also help you Advance Your Talent through the creation of BioSynergy, an online program to assist with the integration of employees in the workplace.

This project is funded by the Government of Canada's
Foreign Credential Recognition Program.
