Career Focus Program

__________________________________________________

Easier to get your foot in the door

It’s an old problem: you need experience to get a job, but without that all-important first job, how do you get experience?

BioTalent Canada’s Career Focus Program helps crack the conundrum by encouraging employers to hire new graduates. It provides companies with subsidies to offset the costs of orientation, integration and skills development.

The BioTalent Canada Career Focus Program makes it easier for employers to hire the talent they need-and for job seekers to gain the work experience they require – by subsidizing the salary of a recent graduate to a maximum of $10,634 for 12 months.

Access opportunity

The BioTalent Canada Career Focus Program gives graduates the opportunity to:

  • Gain valuable, real-world work experience and skills
  • Establish a network of bio-economy contacts
  • Develop personally and professionally

"The Career Focus Program has helped me gain full-time employment and has helped me build important career development skills. A great program that provides incentive for recruitment of new graduates." Karam T.

A Career Focus job is often the gateway to longer-term employment - nearly everyone who completes the program is hired on after his or her placement is finished.

Finding a placement:

  • BioTalent Canada is not responsible for finding and matching potential participants with companies. Occasionally, employers who qualify for wage subsidy, but who have not yet selected a jobseeker to fill a position will ask for access to resumes of applicants to the program. BioTalent Canada may share your resume with these employers only after you have completed the application process, are found to be eligible, and have agreed to release your resume to potential employers in accordance with the Privacy Act and applicable privacy laws.
  • If your application is found to be eligible, you may wish to mention the Career Focus wage subsidy program on your cover letter when you are applying for a position, or you may want to wait and discuss it during an interview.
  • You may also wish to see our HR Toolkit at www.biotalent.ca/hrtoolkit as it contains a section which could help you prepare for your interview.
